The Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun and receives more direct sunlight.
My guess would be that it has something to do with shedding water and/or snow. I've seen on a number of the DIY programs where they have added flared bottoms to porch columns to shed water away from the structure.
There's more land in the Northern Hemisphere, more water in the Southern. Water absorbs heat and thus takes longer to warm. A useful discussion on the subject on RealClimate (climate scientists website) linked below.
Northern Virginia is nice. I am currently in school for Massage Therapy. The pay is well in this area. There are property taxes, but to me its worth it. They really enforce their laws. The crime rates are low.
oh boy Jen, this is a toughy. i think you need to do your own research. Off the top of my (pointy) head I would make a couple of reversals to your premeses. Humanism (of this era speaking philosophically) actually originated from a great struggle in the north (Martin Luther's travails), earlier Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. and gradually became accepted in Italy. So i submit there is no difference in the humanism you speak of, merely that the Italian leaders for example Sixtus V (in the church, although sympathetic) and the Medici family (in the private sector) were more 'cautious' of accepting humanism. In terms of Renaissance Art (which I used to know something about 25 years ago) the word humanism is inapplicable. You are right! the great Italian Renaissance artists, stretching back to the 13thc. work of Giotto to that of my favorite Florentine masters was the first to depict REALISM, that is, representing gods and people in a realistic manner. But this is not humanism because the subject matter rarely strayed from the conventional liturgy. Oh girl, I'm rambling, sorry. Check the Northern Renaissance works of guys like Roger Van der Weyden, Jan Van Eyck, and yikes! Hieronymus Bosch compared to the great masters of the Italian Renaissance (for example Michelangelo, Bernini, Raphael et.al.) and I hope you'll agree its a matter of style, not content.
it is next to impossible to do that because you would need space dust come through our magnetic field and then through our atmosphere and you will have your northern lights.
There is a lot more land mass over the northern hemisphere, which in turn allows air to lose more heat during the NH winter. The southern hemisphere has a lot more ocean area, which acts to temper the heat loss, thus the winters there are warmer (except of course over interior Antarctica).
Inova Fairfax Hospital but you should check with your ob and see what hospital she/he is affiliated with.
I'd say it is the Baltic sea. That provides about the only way that export and import goods can come into Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, N. Poland, Sweden, and Finland. There are a few overland routes into Finland from Russia, but the vast majority of goods come via ports on the Baltic. .
In colonial times, there were very few public schools. Families who could afford it had a tutor. When the tutor had finished his work, the student applied to a university. Families who could not afford a tutor, and didn't have to have their children working with them in the field or the shop, could send them to a public school if their community had one. These schools were taught by women, who had no teacher training, and were largely unskilled in such things as math and science. They could teach basic arithmetic, but that was as far as it went. They were, however, usually very strict on teaching penmanship. Reading was taught largely by the rote method. These schools did not qualify a student for university or extended study.
If it's illegal for pet stores to sell them, it's highly likely that it's illegal for you to own one anywhere in the state. Unfortunately, there are still a number of states that have a complete ban on turtles. I'm in Tennessee and there is a ban on them here as well. The only way to get around it is if you're a legitimate institution buying turtles for educational or research purposes, in which case you would need to obtain a possession permit from your state's wildlife resources agency. However, I've read that a bill was introduced last year to get the FDA to lift the ban on pet turtles. I guess we'll see what happens.
im a southern cook, so i can help you out with that more than northern. southern got a lot of its staples from native americans and africans. There are many staple dishes that came from people living in poverty, such as chitlins and pigs feet. veggies and rice are main foods, always have been, because they have been readily available with all the farms. We use a lot of corn products when cooking, like corn meal and hominy, and a lot of the backbone of southern cooking is just based on whats available out there, whats growin right out of the ground. Also, meats that can be cooked for a long period of time while working, like bbq can cook all day long and not need to be tended to. A lot of southern food is oriented around multiculture- food that the rich and poor and black and white share. We eat a lot of fruit dishes, such as cobblers and pies and jellies, because fruit grows very well in the weather down here. same with the veggies. we also use a lot of fat, because we keep a big mason jar full of drippins on the stove : ) incorrectly though, a lot of people associate southern food to be all deep fried and gravy smothered, which is not true. we use inexpensive meats, and veggies grown in our own backyard, because its easier for a family on a budget to feed 6 kids. we use fresh ingrediants, dont like using things from cans or already partially prepared, what a waste of money! our food takes a lot of time to prepare and tastes amazing because it was made with love. southern cooking is not just a cooking method, it is a way of life! I've included a list of food that us true southerners cannot live without! hot sauce/ grits / hush puppies/ cornmeal mix/ hoppin jon/ collard-turnip-mustard greens/ sweet tea/ bbq/ boiled peanuts/ sweet taters/ pecans/ buttermilk/ okra/ oysters/ hellman's mayo/ cole slaw and potato salad/ sliced tomatos/ green tomatos fish and shrimp/ COMPLETELY homemade breads and pastries and biscuits/ jams/ jellies/ relishes/ banana pudding fried pickles .. both of my parents are from the north, and we're both raised in the north and south switching back and forth. There are several northern dishes I love very much and love to cook. After extensive research, and concluding the influence on New England, northeastern u.s. cooking influence is from the settlers wanting to cook and eat pretty much ANYTHING that they weren't cooking and eating in Britain, because they wanted to rebel from the British. The style of cooking here is pretty native, as they were introduced to America's food because of native americans, and pretty much designed their own style of cooking, to cook whatever the British were not eating.
the northern come from the north while the southern come from the west. (contrary to their name)
I know from toronto ontario it takes about 30hours
Because the temperature stays fairly constant year round, we experience high diversity in culture. not too cold not too hot. This attracts people from all over.
If the area has low foor traffic, I would use Titan fescue or maybe Souther Belle fescue - both are mixes. I think the dark green color on the Titan is more appealing. If there is a lot of activity on the lawn or a lot of sun, you might be better off with Bermuda grass - it is vigorous and it does go dormant in winter, but it requires very little care other than maintaining the edges. If you want something low maintenance and you are not intending to hang out on it - I would recommend lyriope. Lyriope takes a while to fill in and it is expensive to plug but sometimes you can get it free from Landscapers who are removing it from inside garden beds. It only grows about 3 tall, it a lovely dark green color, gets mowed for appearance in winter, and blooms with small purple spikes in spring and fall. It is not super dense, but it has a wide blade and looks great installed - needs almost no fertilzer or water once established, too! Very, very trouble-free and very earth-friendly for the look but don't touch lawn.
